Live Near The Coast?

Products pitting and rusting near the coast is a very common problem due to the salt in the air

If you live near the coast (defined as within 25 miles away) or within 5 miles of a heavily populated industrial area, it is a very common problem for door hardware to pit and rust (usually within 6 months of it being fitted). The high concentration of salt and chemicals in the air corrodes most metals including brass, zinc, zamak, nickel and more.

UAP have developed a range of products developed specifically for the coast - called Nanocoast. These products are made from 316 grade stainless steel, and have been salt spray tested to ASTM B117:2005 for 2000+ hours (the industry standard is 480 hours).

UAP are so confident with the quality of their Nanocoast products that they offer a LIFETIME coating guarantee, meaning that they will not pit or rust no matter where you put them in the country!

If you require a Nanocoast letterbox, please make sure you select PVD gold, mirror polished or satin stainless finishes above.

Fitting Instructions

Fitting Your Letterbox

Fitting your new letterbox is easy and in most cases only requires a screwdriver. The letterbox has 2 parts – the exterior part with brushes and the interior part. We have also supplied fixing screws.

1. Take out your existing letterbox by removing the screws on the inside of the door. The letterbox will then slide out, leaving a cavity in the door.

2. Take the interior part and see if it will fit through the existing hole in the door*. If it does then lift the flap and push the interior part through the door and hold it with one hand. With the door open, slide the exterior part into the door cavity and it will slot into the interior part.

3. Line up the two parts of the letterbox perfectly and then use the 2 screws supplied to secure the interior part. Use a screwdriver to tighten it up but do not use power tools to tighten up the screws.

*If the letterbox does not fit through the cavity, then depending on the door material, open the cavity slightly using a saw, sander or Stanley knife.

Cleaning Your Letterbox

Every month, wipe the letterbox over with a moist cloth and remove any dust particles that may have accumulated. Finish off by wiping the letterbox with a lint free cloth.

Letterbox Guarantee

UAP Limited distribute a range of letterplates in a variety of colours and finishes, and in a number of base materials i.e. aluminium, brass, zamak and stainless steel. As they have no control over the aperture that is cut to take the letterplate, and because the consistency of the door/window/panel thickness is not guaranteed to be perfectly uniform, they strongly recommend using a bead of silicone on the rear of the external letterplate half to go all way round the aperture to give extra support to the water seal. Because of the imperfections in the products being fixed to, especially door panels, the only way to guarantee a good water seal is to apply a silicone bead.

We guarantee the door knocker and finish against the following;

Surface Coating

We guarantee that the letterboxes have a 5 year inland coating guarantee (defined as 25 miles from the coast or 5 miles from a highly populated industrial area), expect Nanocoast finishes which have a lifetime coating guarantee subject to;

1. The letterboxes are applied to a door, window frame or door.

2. The letterboxes are fixed correctly with the brushes facing to the outside and are not scratched or damaged at any time during the installation process or thereafter.

3. The letterboxes are cleaned monthly with a moist cloth and not with any form of cleaning agents.

4. No claim will be accepted for any letterbox that is scratched or mutilated or fitted incorrectly.

We guarantee that the letterboxes will not fail mechanically in normal use during the 5 year guarantee period subject to the conditions outlined above.
